There were some stores in NYC, and perhaps elsewhere, that broke up
everything possible, and sold cases and shades as options, which the more
thrifty of us would take a pass on.

It's interesting then that the cases and hoods didn't survive until the
used lenses were sold to me. Maybe sold separately for a greater
return. It's also interesting that I don't believe I got a hood and
case with my 50/1.4. Maybe part of the price competition of the time
where the hood and case for my lens were sold separately to someone else.
