Theyre probably lying in a box in the original purchasers attic, long
forgotten. I agree with Bill that they are fungus factories. That's
probably the answer when we come across a seemingly unused "pristine"
lens that upon closer inspection we notice it has fungus and scratch
our heads and wonder "how dud this happen?"

It's interesting then that the cases and hoods didn't survive until
the
used lenses were sold to me. Maybe sold separately for a greater
return. It's also interesting that I don't believe I got a hood and
case with my 50/1.4. Maybe part of the price competition of the time
where the hood and case for my lens were sold separately to someone
else.
