That station likely covers an area larger than one county. If so, it will
give a loud, unwelcome warning whenever there is a warning a few counties
over. The special code allows you to at least narrow things down to a
smaller area. If warnings are delivered for a storm in another county going
away from you, after time you will not respond properly to a warning, but
blow it off.

Thanks. I've done a little research since that last post and see that
the station of interest it WXL42 in Winston-Salem, NC serving Guilford
County (and others) on 162.4 MHz.
