I place blame squarely on the shoulders of the US Supreme Court, who struck
down essentially all campaign finance laws, firmly equating "the right to spend
money" with "the right of free speech."
THAT was the final nail in the lid of the coffin of the US Republic. It is now
officially a moneyopoly, where he who spends the most money (anonymously,
even!) gets the most say.
No one will ever know who "bought" the election of 2010, but look for an
endless stream of this idiocy into the future, as long as the US holds together
-- which I give 20-30 years, tops.
