Thinking of you, Chuck and dad, and applauding Jim's wise counsel (but you
don't need to be 80 to notice deteriorating mental faculties).

Chuck,

You and your Dad have been in my thoughts today. I wish you both the best.
As an 80-yr old, I can attest to the fact that our mental faculties do
deteriorate as we get older. Based on our own family's experience, you
might want to weigh your Dad's current quality of life, considering the
nerve problem, against the need for another session in the hospital to seek
a possible correction. We wish we had taken a more conservative approach
with my wife's Dad, though the health issues he faced were quite different.
