I don't believe Toyota sells diesel cars in the US. The prodominance of
murricans that have not driven diesels in Europe seem unable to understand
that it is possible to make on that is virtually indistinguishable from gas.

When I needed a new car 3 years ago, I also very seriously considered a
Prius and test drove one, also lightly used (1 year old). I hesitated a bit
for two reasons: the slow acceleration AG mentions, and the fact that we
tend to take long drives, and I was wondering about the reliability of the
whole battery setup and the ability to get it fixed in the middle of
nowhere. While I was thinking about it for a few days, the car I had test
driven was sold to someone else, so that made my decision--I got a diesel
Toyota Avensis instead, and I am very pleased with it.
