I guess I'm not surprised that it would be done by Google who only makes
money from advertising. However, I probed all the small print under
Gmail's multiple pieces of legalese and could find no such statements.
In fact, the only relevant statement I found was the one I quoted below
"We will not use any of your content for any
purpose except to provide you with the Service." But, even so, I can
see Google operating under this statement with a creative use of "use"
and a definition of "the Service" to include mailing you advertisements.
