That's it! I didn't know that the thumbwheel was pressure sensitive. Thanks 
mate.
They had no manual to give me and there isn't one online yet.
I was photographing a 'one man band' in the street and he had a golf umbrella 
over him (attached) and a bright street behind him. With the sun in or out, in 
A mode or iA (intelligent auto), with or without flash (piss weak) he was 
around 2 stops underexposed - centre weighted metering. Indoor shots fine 
unless there's a window behind and then it's silhouette time.  Time for spot 
metering today methinks.
This is the bane of reviewing - it takes a while to get used to a camera and 
you miss shots. But I tend to expect better out of the box.
I had a similar experience with the GF1 when it appeared but my E--2, the E-P1 
and E-PL1 never caused me such grief. Neither have other Panny models.
