I can't understand it from the description but I'm satisfied by the fact 
that there is another piece involved beyond the mirror.  The fact that 
the curved metal curtain comes up from the bottom would seem to be 
counteracting what would otherwise be a longer exposure since, without 
it, the opening on the bottom side of the mirror would have been open 
longer than the top.
