The FL-40 is an old model, I think developed for use with C-5050 camera.
Compatibility with the E cameras in TTL mode is supposed to be only partial.

I see this is an FL-36, not an FL-36R.  KEH has a new FL-36R for $199. 
They also have BGN FL-40s for $69 (with guarantee).  The bid on this
FL-36 is now up to $65.88 and will likely close above that.  Any reason to
use an FL-36 vs FL-40?
