Think of it like this George.
You have something for sale that you think a few friends of yours may be
interested in. Do you -
a) Say, 'Hey guys, I'm selling X. I'd like to get $X for it. Anyone
interested?' or -
b) Say, 'OK, guys, I've got an X for sale. Any bids?'
I don't think you'd start an auction among your friends. And encouraging people
to bid on your auctions is hardly 'generating a discussion'! It's setting your
friends against each other.
That's why almost any list like this (and there are many thousands) almost
always have a simple rule that you can offer something for a price but you
don't invite offers, and that certainly includes encouraging list members to
bid on your auctions. No, it's not written down - many rules of diplomacy and
etiquette are not but that doesn't make them any less real.We mention other
auctions we see as a friendly 'heads up' but often add that we have no personal
involvement.

Some of the comments have been intemperate and I regret that. I found your
previous membership here enlightening and your depth of knowledge on stereo
valuable. A friend of mine who is a fan of stereo technique knows of you and
respects your commentaries. I'm glad to see you back and hope you stick around
for a good long while. That's why I offered a friendly caution.
So can we all say sorry and just move on now?
Sorry.
