It's interesting how extravagances, pleasures, and necessities change over time.

We're all caught up in a "current expense" mirage.

We may think we're only spending some money that we earned in the past week or 
month, but in reality, we are most likely spending the non-replaceble stored 
capital of millions of years of savings, plus the opportunity for future 
generations to have as simple pleasures that which we now consider necessities.

That's meant as an observation, not as a value judgement against anyone in 
particular, although I'm certain some will choose to take offence.
