My first thought was there are few blacks. Did he use a filter or weird
film? ... but reading: darkness and tone mapping. The affect makes me think
of very old pictures.

Add some vignetting and it might create an "Alfred Hitchcock" feel.

Your artistic intent got me thinking is some unexpected directions. Thinking
is good.

I scanned a shot from last year's Colorado trip. It's another shot
from Chalk Lake. This time it's a B&W shot taken with the the OM-3Ti
and 35mm shift lens. The exposure was about two minutes long.

I did process the image with some substantial tone mapping to achieve
artistic intent, which is a bit different than the original scan. I do
like the delicate nature of the images from this discontinued film.
