Hi Chuck,

The underlaying reason is that in auto mode these cameras determine
the shutterspeed during the actual exposure (= off-the-film metering).
This doesn't go through the mirror so they would be OK using a linear
filter. O.t.o.h. to make things complicated: the shutterspeed
indication (and it really is only an indication in auto mode) probably
would be thrown off by a linear filter though!

The OM-2S/P in manual mode (= spot measuring mode) measures before
exposure, and measures through the mirror, hence requires a circular
pol filter to measure (and indicate) correctly.
The same thing goes for the OM-4(T(i)) in manual mode and in spot
metering mode and the OM-3(T) in any mode: they measure through the
mirror, so require a circular pol filter.

Hope this all makes sense to you. :)
If it doesn't make sense you can prevent confusion by either of these methods:
* toss all your pol filters
* toss all your linear pol filters
* toss all your OM- 2S(/P), 4(T(i)) 3(T) bodies

Cheers,
Bart
