I find the f8 lenses difficult to focus. I've missed focus with it mounted
on a tripod and having plenty of time to focus. IIRC a list member posted a
sharp picture taken with one hand held, in a rain forest, while in a canoe.

The faster catadioptric lenses are fairly easy to focus: Celestron 750/6,
Vivitar 450/4.5, Tamron 350/5.6. Donut bokeh and low contrast have to be
watched for.

If I'm going to be taking pictures of distant moving objects (birds, bugs,
people) I accept handling the weight and size of a Tamron 400/4 conventional
lens. If I want to carry a long lens for "just in case", I will take a
catadioptric lens.

Using 10x live view on a digital camera would probably solve the focus issue
leaving the donut bokeh for highlights as the main concern.

Anyone have one? How useful do you find it?
