Ah, back in separated at birth mode . . .

I have on occasion tried, or at least felt I should try, setting some button or 
other as AF - and remembering to use it. 
But the half-press seems so natural, and flexible, that it is what I use all 
the time. If I really want focus to stay 
where I put it, I just turn AF off for the nonce.

I'm sure I must be doing something wrong - oh well.
