Thanks for the feedback about the Hampton Court flower show which I see
is scheduled for July 5-10. I had no idea. The house I'm staying at is
normally occupied by the son of some very good friends. The son is on
assignment in London for several years. During that particular 3-day
time period in Esher my wife and three other lady folk will be going to
Paris. My friend and his son will be off on a fishing trip or some
other father/son bonding exercise. I'm left alone with the house for
the long weekend. We have no plans to hire a car in England. Our hosts
do not have a car in Esher and I'm told one can get anywhere from their
house very easily via public transport.

The mother is deathly afraid of flying (and has never done so) but wants
to see her son who has been in London now more than a year. So she
asked my wife if she'd accompany her to the UK on board the Queen Mary
II. So my wife leaves well ahead of me. I'll travel with the father by
plane and arrive at Heathrow on June 22 and return on July 12. We'll
use the Esher house as a base but plan to spend much of our time in
Scotland in Glasgow and Edinburgh. We'll get there and back by train
but hire a car for touring about in Scotland.
