Not bad at all.
I have a similar story, but did not find the time to write it to the list.
Until now.
About four months ago I was at the office looking at the Dutch 'marketplace'
(it is owned nowadays by eBay, but they did not implement their auction
structure in it, so you can bid but without legal commitment), at around
9:30 AM. I saw a 55mm 1.2 for €10. There was already a €20 bid. Well, I
thought, I can give the phone number a try (you would be amazed how many
bidders never try to call although there is a phone number provided). An
older man answered the phone, apparently in a car.
I said something like "I'm interested in your lens, can I buy it". He said
"OK". Then I said, well that is nice but there is already a bid of €20 and I
expect even higher bids. He then said 'OK, 20 it is then'. He told me his
address and we made an appointment for the next day. I was worried that the
bids would go on and on to the expected €180 or even higher, so I decided to
bid €400. That did stop further bidding ;-).
Next day he welcomed me with the words 'wow you caused some email traffic to
me', as of course I mailed him that I made the high bid to stop further
bidding. Several people had complained that this lens was not worth €400, so
that it was a fraud bid ;-).
He kind of knew the lens was worth more then he agreed for, but he didn't
mind it as long as it went to a good home. We had a nice chat about his
history on Olympus (they both used to have OM camera's but switched to
lighter digital P&S, I guess they were in their eighties), and then he gave
me an auto bellows for free 'since you can't sell them anymore' ;-). He had
some non advertised stuff too, so in the end I left quite packed, and my
wallet was still quit packed too.
I made a mental note: this lens must be transferred from me to a new owner
in a similar way, but not until....
