I'm also going to have to try again.  My major attempt at focus stacking 
was ruined by a similar problem.  It wasn't a breeze but wilting that 
caused the problem.  I had clipped a small crabtree branch full of 
blossoms off the neighbor's tree.  I inserted the branch in a vase of 
water.  By the time I had completed the half dozen or so exposures the 
leaves and blossoms had wilted enough that it became impossible to merge 
the individual images.  I was truly amazed by the speed of the wilting 
which was otherwise unnoticeable to me.
