Removing the AA filter from an E-1 would not necessarily be a good
thing. Several reasons apply:

1. Pixel-pitch is great enough that most lenses will out-resolve the
sensor making moire very likely.

2. AA filter increases the effective surface area of the sensor
itself. Not increasing actual captured light levels, but does help
give the entire surface area an even coverage. The microlenses are
supposed to do this, but the microlenses of this age of sensor have a
very narrow acceptance angle. The AA filter difuses the light path
enough that the microlenses don't vignette as much.

3. E-1 has a different pixel-layout which incorporates FOUR different
color sensors. If you don't have enough blurring to light up both
green sensors in a four-pixel layout, you'll get color shifts.
