I just finished watching the evening news. Fortunately for coastal NY the
storm had lost some of its intensity by the time it made its third landfall
on Long Island. The storm surge was far less than predicted but plenty of
wind and rain to go around. The big story was the rain on the western side
of the storm. The inland areas received 8-10 inches of rain in an area that
was already saturated from a wet summer season. LOTS of flooding. Most of
the fatalities have been due to the falling trees but there were also a few
who have to test Darwin's Theory by going down to the beach to check things
out.
  Stay safe guys.
