It was explained to me by my father, the aircraft engineer, that the big 
problem with the mosquitos was the glue. The plywood was glued together with 
a glue that was like crack for some sort of microorganism, and the poor 
things were carefully and fully delaminated.

Don't know if he was right, but as a structural engineer, he knew a very 
very little about wood, just what he learned in his first job at Stearman.

Mosquito's were attacked by termites and they arguably used the technology 
first...a thin layer of ply, balsa core, then another layer of ply...way 
before their time  ;-)>

And you've just made it worse by going even further away from the pun.
I don't know any termites that can drill through carbon composites to
get to the delicious balsa wood inside.  Oh, wait!  Maybe Formosan
termites can.
