     Red, yes.  I watched a male Broadtail try to feed from a New Mexico 
Thistle in my front yard once.  He would poke at it repeatedly, get nothing in 
return, then perch on a nearby branch and cuss at it.  Kept at it for an hour 
or more.

     Try using a strobe in a shaded area.
