Chuck, a couple of thoughts:

1. Use your 5D and photograph the pages of damaged photographs. Maybe
a digital restoration to at least Flickr quality might be enough.

2. Wax paper? I wouldn't

3. Grab the large screen off the screen door. You know that thing that
is hidden behind a closet door down in your basement? Yes, that. Clean
the cobwebs off and in fact, just hose it down really good. Now, after
it is dry, lean it up lengthwise against a seat or bed. Gentle slope.
Now take the prints after you have washed them and place them on the
screen image-side up. After they have tried to the point where there
are no more water spots on top (don't worry about them), turn the
prints over onto the face. Let them dry overnight.

4. An alternative to the last point is to hang up clothesline in the
garage (these drip, so the garage will probably be more appropriate.
Get a bunch of clothes pins--the spring type. Use your wax paper and
tear off a tiny little bit to only protect the corner of the print
(optional). Hang the just washed prints from a corner (you can get to
the point where you leave no visible mark at all on the prints). Let
them dry overnight. When hung, an RC print will appear dry in about 20
minutes, but the emulsion needs an overnight to harden.

Easy as that. I'm thinking that you are over doing this a bit.
