I do kinda feel for the community of Rochester. So much of the economy of
that area is dependant upon that loser of a company. My employer just
bought another company in that city and made the unusual decision (past
history) of actually leaving leaving most of the employees there. My
concern was that we'd throw Rochester under the bus, but for now it looks
OK. Wish Kodak could slap itself out of this self-destructive mode, but I'm
thinking that it won't happen because the very nature of the corporate
culture is ALL about continuity of a business mindset which no longer works.

I saw firsthand the destruction of a company called Maytag. The beuracracy
was so thick that adaption to changing markets was impossible. For the last
20 years their growth was through buying other companies. They could never
figure out how to sell anything in the international market and the
manufactering was so horribly expensive that they couldn't be price
competitive either. Add to that the fact that employee absenteeism ranged
from 15% to 30% and you wonder how it ever managed to get any product out
the door.

Both Kodak and Maytag had very similar backgrounds and corporate cultures.

BTW, I no longer work in the former Maytag headquarters complex. It sits
mostly vacant. It's a $16,000,000 complex which you can now purchase for
$1. See paragraph one.

No, I'm not kidding.
