     Some of those ghosttowns have become the resource themselves.  Bodie, 
California is now a state park and is one of the more interesting tourist traps 
between Las Vegas and Reno.  Oatman, Arizona is almost a ghosttown except for 
some turqouise mining nearby.  Tombstone, Bisbee, and Jerome all survive mostly 
on tourist trade.  When the gold, silver, lead, borax etc. played out everyone 
just walked away.
