I can see why you consider it a very special NZ plant. I do like it.
It appears your version of things is nice and that you wanted to
have most (all) of it in sharp (or nearly so) focus. The steps you
have outlined to improve it seem reasonable. The plane of focus is
more in front
and the rear are just a touch oof but not enough to provide a pleasant
oof blush or just place the sharp areas in context. They just want to
be in sharp focus too. Chuck had a similar conundrum with a crab apple
branch. He consulted Dr. Focus who recommended focus stacking.

As you want a dark background anyway would consider using a diffuse
flash at moderate to smallish aperture to eliminate ghosting from any
motion and decrease ambient (?sync speed of the cam) and stack 5 to 10
shots. Chuck had one out of order that fouled up the "do stack"
algorithm in CombineZ---till he figured out the problem. All the other
included algorithms don't require the frames to be in order.

I wonder if a touch of deconvolution with FM on the posterior blooms
might just touch it up as is?

Just my 2 cents. Thanks for posting it.

Stacking addicted, Mike
