This is ubiquitous. I bought my wife a string of pearls recently - nothing
expensive. Just some freshwater pearls out of Hong Kong via eBay. Did a little
research first. Now half the sites I access that carry advertising have an ad
for Laguna pearls on them. Obviously I collected a cookie somewhere along the
way. Doesn't bother me - there's going to be something there anyway.
Serious FB marketing does cost but if I was into using my studio commercially
to make a proper living, I'd use it. It allows you to direct your ads
geographically which would be important for me. A friend who works as a
personal trainer has ramped up his business substantially using FB without
going to the extent of paying for placed ads. Personally, the idea of going to,
say, Sony's local site to 'like' them seems the height of absurdity.
