I quite agree with your rating of blah blah.

In fastStone, I selected the images I wanted, up to 4, hit the compare 
button, and voila, there they were. I could delete them from that pane, 
saving many clicks and much time. While comparing I could right click, 
move the image around at 100% to inspect one area, say eyes. I could 
independently move each image, and then lock it so the part of each 
image I had chosen stayed in the center of the pane, and then I could 
move all 4 images around at once again. This is not so easy to explain 
in text, as I write it, sorry about that.

Suffice it to say it was a 3-4 click process as opposed to the 
ummm...messy list of directions listed below from Adobe. Yes, let's 
definitely make it much harder and less user friendly than it needs to 
be. Goodness.

Oh, and you are right, the latest version of FastStone that I had on the 
PC did not have the ability to rotate images while in comparison mode.
