Many photogs doing portraits and events do deal with their clients over
the web using password protected private galleries and small thumbnails
or larger images with the studio name emblazoned on or watermarked in.
I guess it works for some people but I prefer to work in person. You
get a chance to advise and sell and maybe even get paid.

But I don't do that kind of photography for money any more and haven't
for years. I wouldn't shoot a wedding or Bar Mitzvah now unless you
crossed my palm with more money than I've ever seen before. But I do it
for free now on a very small scale. Shooting family and friends mostly.
Or, in this Florida retirement RV park, I'm the volunteer who maintains
the photo wall... photos of all the couples who have permanent or
semi-permanent living arrangements here. I agreed to do that last year
and discovered that this year there are about 70 couples (out of about
220) who don't have their photos on the board for one reason or another.
Much more work than I expected. Guess I'd better get busy and maybe
also train some assistants. :-)

I did a bit of it last year. I had people reserve 15 minute time slots
and would take about 1/2 dozen images in that time period. I discovered
that some retirees (not just moms with small kids) were pretty fussy
about selecting their free images. One woman even rejected them all.
Ah, well. Sometimes they look a little bit too much like the subject.
Guess I'd better apply a bit more PhotoShop for some folks.

Landscape and architecture are a lot more fun.
