I have different experience, I only use MF lenses on my 5D II, before the 
EG-S was available I wasn't able to focus accurately on the standard 
focusing screen with the F2 Zuikos. The OM 28-48 F4 was the standard lens on 
my 5D II during that time. But I agree it is a big drawback without the 
grid. On the film age, the Minolta Screen 7 type L (with grid) was my 
standard focusing screen on the OM body.
