Obviously, I haven't been using much FastStone lately and it's good to 
know this.  But how and when it converts raw files doesn't make much 
difference to the main discussion which was that, without an embedded 
JPEG to work with, FastStone was ultimately obligated to convert ORFs 
along with its attendant performance impact in order to be able to see 
anything at all.
