The provisions regulating what we ordinary folk can do in Trafalgar Square
are nothing new, in that you already need a licence to ply trade as a
photographer there. It was once a popular spot to have one's photo taken
(while feeding the pigeons) by one of the professional photographers hanging
around touting for business. And I have the photographic evidence of self
there with said avian decoration. Both activities (photography and
pigeon-feeding) have been banned for more than 10 years "in the interests of
keeping the Square clean and free-circulating for public enjoyment". Oh and
protest encampments are banned too (also not a new provision as regards
Parliament Square - RIP Brian Haw).

I have seen a claim that the fountains in Trafalgar Square were intended to
reduce the open space available for potentially riotous assembly!

I assume that things are now being tightened up in readiness for events
later this year.

John

He's not the "Lord Mayor"; that's a ceremonial position. Boris is "Mayor of
London" and I haven't seen any reasons.
