Glad I could help.  The red stuff is probably some sort of "loctite" 
which in this case didn't do it's job.  Hats off to you for taking care 
of it. You have avoided a trip to a repair shop.

At Tamron, I've been certified to repair on the SP 17-50mm f2.8 VC, 
70-200mm f2.8, and am training on the 70-300mm VC.  Tamron will be 
making lenses for the m4/3rd system, and Sony Nex cameras.  BTW, the 
70-200 is awesomely sharp and contrasty.
