Oh, come on. You weren't up there long enough.
My first experience with pasties did leave me, uh, a little
disappointed. I was expecting something different than a cassarole in
an edible envelope. Perfect for mailing off to those starving children
in some far off land. I've had a couple since then and I'm not sure my
feelings really have improved too much.
The whole reason for going to Mackinaw City is Bell's Fishery. Without
a doubt, the best smoked fish in the country. Going north, I'd always
buy bunch of fish and chow on that for the remainder of the trip.
Total avoidance of pasties was accomplished.
Pasties... Maybe that's why they drink so much in the UP?
