I downloaded the trial version of LR early-on, and tried to use it with my
existing filing system, which consists of a folder for each year, with
sub-folders for each month, sub-sub-folders for each group of images, with
these named by month, day, camera & lens, and subject matter. I normally
select an image to edit, do my RAW and PSE 6 editing, and save it back to
the same folder with a unique name.
>From the short time I spent with LR, probably 2-3 days, it appeared to me
that it wanted to set up a filing system of its own, not akin to mine.
Since I did not explore it in depth, I may very well have missed an option
to have it adopt my system. I just saw very little advantage it offered to
my way of editing. I deleted it and moved on.
I'm sure that I may be missing out on unique features that LR offers, but
I'm not a professional and don't deal with customers, so things of that sort
don't really turn me on. I prefer to work with a simple system where I can
remember the order of things, and concentrate on finding worthwhile subjects
for my images.
As with most things, YMMV
