No, no, no. Bob is being much too sensibly practical again. This is
about eminently enjoyable activity of gear fussing and any interesting
efforts in that regard should not be discouraged.
People pay big bucks for no CA at wide apertures, interesting or
smooth bokeh and modest differences in "rendition." Ruminating
about these nuances and pixel peeping for hours can be one of the joys
of existence.

One can't burn too much time with this so a combination of 3 and 4
seems reasonable. Both full frame and 100% crops with- application
centric test. One should know the best lens for a given application
among similar choices. Perhaps repeat on a 5D if desired . May be
difficult to adjust for same FOV w/o losing too many pixels--or just
leave it as a separate test. Changing cam to subject distance another
option but introduces another variable to affect bokeh. Per Nasse the
blur attributes changing formats for same fov at "equivalent apertures"
(same dof) should be the same. Again we postulated a possible
lens/format bokeh interaction on this list that does not conform to
Nasse equations for ideal lenses.

Only partly in jest, Mike
