On my hikes I carry a rucksack (daypack) for hiking necessities, and
there's little to no room for camera equipment except for a couple of small
items and the monopod. The camera, extra lens, and closeup accessories are
carried in Tamrac and Lowepro belt pouches attached to a thickly padded Tamrac
belt. On occasions where I leave the rucksack behind to scramble up a
hillside, the weight of the camera gear on the waist is barely noticable. This
has worked out very nicely for years.

2. Do an excercise regime that strengthens the neck, shoulder and back.
