I also feed the black oil sunflower seeds.  Both of my feeders are 
squirrel proof and one has the outer screen that keeps the larger birds  
out of it.  The other one is weight closing, but the scrub Jay can get 
to it.  I find that the sparrows are the sloppiest feeders of the 
bunch.  Also have a dedicated squirrel feeder.  It doesn't always have 
feed in it, though.  They are too greedy.
The finches seem to run in groups.  And sometimes there are chickadees 
and nuthatches traveling with them around here.
