Not long after that time I would have jumped at an Exakta if I could have
afforded it - the WL finder was very attractive for macro use. But in 1970
it was a Kodak Instamatic 100 (no fancy flash cubes, just AG-1 bulbs), to be
replaced the following year by a Zenit E with the Industar 50/3.5 (a
semi-clone of the Leitz Elmar, almost the worst possible lens to use on an
SLR with manual focus on plain ground glass, since it had a fully manual
diaphragm). I should have gone for the Zenit B with Helios 58/2 - same
price, no meter, but with a preset diaphragm on the Biotar-clone Helios.

Hi Dean,

About that time, I also tried an Exacta, because my eyes were requiring
glasses, which did not work well with my Leica IIIa. My Exacta is no longer
functional, but its little brother, the Exa, picked up in a pawn shop, still
works fine. It made a lot of holiday snapshots when my family was growing
up. Worked great with flash.
