I concur. I do my own home C-41 and RA-4 and any medium format print can
easily trump digital, IMNSHO. 35mm is about equal I'd say, perhaps with a
slight advantage over digital in some ways (and disadvantaged in others). It
takes some significant skill to make a good print from either medium. I see
way more crap digital prints these days though (since everyone is shooting
digitally). 

I don't bother scanning at all in general, I only print optically (with a
pretty nice darkroom set up, I must admit.)
