Looking straight at the camera makes for a challenging portrait, in my view, 
Chris.  When I take portraits I try to get the head tilted and turned slightly 
way.  My students treat it as a joke when I ask for head movement, especially 
as they all look straight at the camera, but they now know what to do . . .
