I didn't realize it at first but it is an LED monitor.  The real reason 
I bought it was that it's an IPS panel and has very high review ratings.

At this point I'm not sure if its properly calibrated or not.  What I 
couldn't do was force it to change brightness levels to near black using 
the manual controls.  But it's clear that it can do a very pure black 
when operating normally.

Skipping the white balance portion of the setup and choosing a pre-set 
value from the monitor's menu allowed me to run through the calibration 
portion without any further trouble.  The picture looks great and I 
don't want to send it back.  I'm just unsure about how accurate it 
really is.
