The lack of high-fructose corn syrup may simply represent what's 
available in your market for sweetening.  Other sugars probably taste 
the same but would require more sugar for the same degree of sweetness 
(which is why high-fructose corn syrup is used in the first place... 
it's cheaper)

As to the lack of sodium I'm clueless.  There isn't a Coke in the house 
(nor has there been one for many years) so I don't know what (if 
anything) is on the label.  But I think it's Lustig who says that Coke 
contains salt to make you thirsty... and, of course, drink more Coke.

Perhaps the UK has some sensible regulations there.  :-)
