In a word - yes. But in the dim/dark, a tripod is usually needed, so using the 
screen is generally easier than EVF. They 
both gain up the same, and do the same magnifications for focusing.

With E-PL1, not E-M5, but the E-M5 screen is brighter, clearer and has less 
noise in the dark, the last two shots here 
were focused with 200/5 at f8 shooting aperture.

It was really quite dim, as you can see from the middle, overall view and 25 & 
15 sec. exposure times. I would not want 
to be focusing that lens in that light hand held, though.
