Don't know about lenses, but virtually all glass cleaners are ammonia based.
Try the automotive aisle, and there will be glass cleaners with other
formulations, with other solvents. One I have used on not-lens glass was
made by a company named Stoner. Don't know why I remembered that.

When I worked for the airplane factory, I sometimes filled in for the guy
that ran the process camera (boring work). There was a special glass cleaner
that had an ether base. Worked great, and it wasn't what made me sleepy on
that job.

Subject: [OM] OM Windex

Hi all,
This really could be best answered by John Hermanson (don't have
his e-mail address to hand)
I recall he advocates using Windex? to clean camera lenses. As we are at
present in the States I went into a local Safeways to be confronted with
Windex with ammonia,Windex with fragrance, Windex surface cleaner.......you
get the indea.
What do I need. I am assuming I avoid fragrance and Amonia products like the
plague. thanks in advance .
