It would help if Olympus were to make an official statement. But, their

Motorola used to do that with lavish advertising about New! Improved! devices
with opportunities to request samples. The devices did not exist, and instead
it was just a marketing feeler to see if there was any interest for such a
device.
I do something similar with high performance radio circuit design. I
subscribe to numerous hobby and semi-professional lists looking for discussions
about areas that are in need of improvement. Then I'll design something to fit
the need and publish it.
