Thanks, Don. I very much look forward to your posts. It is a very cool
lens, IMO and am glad
Jeff K spotted one I could obtain. Perhaps I should rephrase the last
statement (i.e., 'cool") as the AR coatings of the time and the many
glass-air interfaces results in a slight yellow-brown color cast that
often is not a problem. According to an experienced poster on FM
talking about this lens and AR color casts in general:

"Colour casts are not the one-dimensional "just white-balance it!" type
of problem most people would think (like?) it to be. More often than
not, lens colour casts are more related to Lateral CA and wavelength
dependant coating haze than to "pure" filtering problems.

The filtering that goes on through a lens is a VERY linear and smooth
colour balance displacement, and this is easily remedied by the WB
sliders.

The LoCA spectral line and AR-coating reflection (colour dependant
haze) are totally different beasts. They do not in any way act
linearly, and are highly dependant on the local surrounding (in the
picture)."

Actually a change of WB fixes it 60-70% , IMO, and sometimes it just
flatters the image as is. I think the shooting target/profile with
sunny 16? technique is likely just fine. I don't want neutral color
rendtion, just
removal of the effect of the AR coating. Again I really like the lens
"drawing style" & bokeh. it is not an APO design, but stopped down just
a bit is just fine. It is too big to lug on trips and that is where the
CV180 F4
Apo Lanthar comes in which is tack sharp wide open and quite small
indeed. It is very nice to be able to frame by zooming when chasing
critters though.

Don't worry about Ektar Blue overkill with this lens as much, Mike
