Hi all,

I don't really like dial locks :-( I have them on two rangefinders,
Voigtländer's R3A and the sweet Minolta CLE, and find them rather
intrusive. Both are implemented as a combined exposure compensation/manual
speed dial.

On the other hand, cameras ranging from the inexpensive Yashica FX-D and
the automatic Leica M's (7, 8, 9...) on their traditional 'manual speed +
AE' use what I think is the best way: a slightly stiffer detent for the
Auto setting. Just makes unintentional setting impossible, while allowing
convenient eye-level access when desired.

The worst offender here is the exposure compensation dial on the X100... it
*rarely* stays at the proper setting. Haven't handled the X-Pro1, but it's
said to be improved by making the dial "more flush" with the camera top. It
also adds a speed dial lock, which I find unnecessary on the X100.

Eons ago :-) my pocket camera was a Ricoh GR-1 -- usually loaded with
Superia 800 and the mode/aperture dial at 'P' (please don't bash me :-)
which often moved a bit, right up to the f/2.8 setting... causing tons of
overexposed negatives on daylight (fortunately, Superia 800 is surprisingly
tolerant about this) That aperture dial was located, guess where... exactly
where the X100's compensation dial is :-(

Cheers,
