I disagree.  While both cameras employ a beam-splitter the functions and 
reasons for the beam-splitters are different.  The Canon splits the beam 
with 2/3 going to the film and 1/3 to the viewfinder.  The Sony directs 
70% of the light to the sensor/viewfinder/meter while the remaining 30% 
goes to the AF sensor array.  The Canon design was solely to eliminate a 
moving mirror.  The Sony design was to be able to feed straight to the 
sensor for live view and metering but without having to use contrast 
detect autofocus.
